The Monk

Waking up at 5:30 in the morning to swim in freezing cold water, sans coffee, is not really my jam. In fact, it's probably the last thing I think I'd like to do the morning after being kept up all night by drunk college kids screaming the lyrics to 'we are the champions'. BUT as underwater photographers, alas, we must push ourselves outside of our comfort zones literally everytime we bring our camera underwater. Ginnie Springs is a very special place and as such has been inhabited by many looking to exploit her wonder, ie: drunk college kids galore. So when I went camping here a few weeks ago, I found out very quickly if you want to get any decent photos, the early bird gets the worm. Luckily, my husband is a true trooper and tagged along. As I was swimming about looking for photo opportunities, I came around and found him perched on this rock, deep in thought. He is a black belt in sil lum kung fu and meditation and qi, (or as the rest of us know it as 'chi'), are huge parts of his life. I love this image because it is a perfect description of who he is, spiritual, intelligent, thoughtful.
